Most boats entering the country are cleared through customs and importation duty of 10% is levied on the boat.

There are situations where the owner does not register the boat locally and if you end up interested in a boat with no Bahamian registration, it will usually have the original United States title or a US registration number. It will only take a few days to get the boat properly registered in the Bahamas once you have purchased the boat.

It really depends on the price of the boat. As an example a $10,000 boat would be $1000 in duty (10%), $75 importation fees (customs at the port) $200 inspection fee (customs main branch), $30 bill of sale notarization, $20 port authority license, $15 for registration stickers (sign shop).

If the boat you are interested in is already duty paid and has a Bahamian registration number, all you need to do to transfer the ownership is to pay $20 (up to 30 foot boats) or $100 (over 30 foot boats) and bring your bill of sale (must be notarized by a local lawyer or justice of the peace) and the existing registration card the present owner should have, and your passport or driver's license to the Port Authority on Woodes Rogers Walk.
